In-person small group learning is where it’s at this fall and Shift is where you can get in on some of that goodness.  The October class calendar is up.  We’ve got some seriously kickass creatives with some seriously creative workshops this month:

* Witness Writing with Helen Lowe of Catalytica
* Right-Brain Business Planning with Ho’Omalamalama Brown
* Hacking Mercury Retrograde with international astrologer Genevieve Hathaway
* CRAVE Alliance Mastermind Group with the inimitable Melody Biringer
and….drumroll….

the launch of Seth Godin’s experiment in in-person learning – Krypton Community College. We launched the first class today of Go: How to Overcome Fear, Pick Yourself, & Start a Project that Matters.

6 brave Seattle creative professionals came together to talk about fear and how it affects our creative projects. In the end, we realized that everyone experiences fear at some point; it’s normal. When we shift from tweaking out and labeling fear as “bad” to acknowledging & embracing fear, it can serve as a growth tool.  No need to get tweaked peeps.  That’s tweaked, not twerked.  Although you probably shouldn’t do that either.

Say hello to the South Lake Union Narwhals:

We are a cute group.

The difference between people who start something new and those who don’t is:

Creatives who move forward with their innovations move through fear. They dance with it. Acknowledge it. Embrace it.

Today’s group assignment from Seth was: Make a List of How We Can Dance with Fear. Here’s what we came up with.

9 Ways to Get Your Groove on with Fear:

South Lake Union Narwhal Style

1) Take a leap of faith. Literally.  Instead of reading inspirational quotes on fear all day…take action in the physical world to DO IT! Participant Lori Stone of the Joy Guild had a great example of this when she put her inspirational Richard Bach quote into action by jumping off a cliff in New Zealand. Like so…

2) Run towards the thing that scares you versus creeping towards it. (It’s the old rip the bandaid off quickly thing.)

3) “No more excuses, choose to do it.”Blair Phillips

4) Create a group or family that validates, motivates & supports you. Spend time with this community. Nourish it.

5) Openly receive compliments and intentionally connect with joy. Brag without fear (ok, brag is loaded, I prefer “I rocked this”… and then OWN your awesomeness.. but you gotta figure out what works for you)

6) Give yourself permission.  (instead of looking for external validation all the time)

7) Allow experimentation.

8) Stay focused on how your project benefits the greater good. Come from a place of service.  (This was from Abi. She’s not in the picture but she is awesome.)

9) Don’t dwell on past feelings of fear but new feelings of joy.

Also, we had really delicious snacks with lovely presentation. Delicious snacks is another great way to move through fear.  Thanks Cathy.
